I think training dummies should increase skill, albeit at a much lower level of increases in skill level. You are still practicing your skill, so you should gain experience. But just like real life you can practice as much as you want but real life and death situations make you a whole lot better. So you gain normal exp when attacking alive things, and on training dummies you gain 1/8th of that. That seems fair.
There may well be more to find, don't know, and I haven't tried these. The search I used in Google was training dummies oblivion.

Simply brew up a Damage Speed poison and find the nearest Ogre. They are both notoriously slow and vulnerable to poison, so one dose is likely all you'll need to immobilize one.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.
